Macbeth Overview

'Macbeth' Overview Macbeth, one of Shakespeare’s most famous tragedies, tells the story of a Scottish nobleman and his own ambition to become king. The source material is Holinshed’s Chronicle, which compiled a history of England, Scotland and Ireland. First published in its Folio edition in 1623, it is the shortest of Shakespeare’s tragedies. Despite its brevity, it had a rich legacy. Fast Facts: Macbeth Title: MacbethAuthor: William ShakespearePublisher:  Edward Blount and William and Isaac JaggardYear Published: First Edition, Folio, 1623Genre: dramaType of Work: tragedyOriginal Language: EnglishThemes: Ambition, fate, free will, loyalty, appearance vs. realityCharacters: Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, The Three Witches, Duncan, Banquo, MacduffNotable Adaptations: Orson Welles’ Voodoo Macbeth (1936); Akira Kurosawa’s Throne of Blood (1957);  Roman Polanski’s The Tragedy of Macbeth (1971)Fun Fact: due to superstition, actors avoid addressing Macbeth by its name directly, and use the phrase â€Å"The Scottish Play† instead. Plot Summary Macbeth is a tragedy telling the story of the Scottish nobleman by the same name, consumed by his own ambition to become king and by the consequences of the acts he commits in order to achieve his goal. At the beginning of the play, after a victorious battle, Macbeth and fellow general Banquo meet three witches in a heath, and they deliver prophecies to both of them: Macbeth would become king of Scotland, and Banquo will father a line of kings while not becoming king himself. Encouraged by Lady Macbeth, his ruthless wife, Macbeth plans to kill King Duncan. After his murder, since his heir Malcolm and his brother Donalbain promptly flee to England and Ireland, respectively, Macbeth is crowned king. Consumed by guilt and paranoia, he becomes more and more of a tyrant as the play progresses. First he has Banquo killed, and his ghost visits him during a banquet. After consulting the witches again, who tell him to beware of Macduff and that he won’t be vanquished by anyone â€Å"of woman born,† he tries to have Macduff’s castle seized and everyone inside killed. However, since Macduff had gone to England to join forces with Malcolm, Macbeth only succeeds in having Macduff’s family killed. This prompts Macduff and Malcolm to raise an army aimed at dethroning Macbeth. Meanwhile, Lady Macbeth, who initially was more assertive than her husband, has become consumed by guilt to the point of insanity and eventually kills herself. The Scottish generals rally against Macbeth, and Macduff manages to vanquish him- he was not â€Å"of woman born† but â€Å"from his mothers womb untimely ripped.†Ã‚  The play ends with Malcolm being crowned king of Scotland. Major Characters Macbeth. Macbeth is initially presented as a Scottish nobleman and a valiant warrior. However, after listening to the prophecy delivered by the Three Witches in which he is told he would be king, he is overcome by blind ambition, and, strongly encouraged by his wife, he kills the king to usurp the throne.  His thirst for power is counterbalanced by paranoia, which leads to his downfall. Lady Macbeth. Macbeth’s wife, she thinks her husband’s nature is too full of kindness. She is the one who devises the plot for her husband to murder King Duncan, and is initially less fazed by the deed than her husband. However, she eventually unravels too, and commits suicide. The Three Witches. Whether they control fate or are merely its agents, the Three Witches set the tragedy in motion: they deliver Macbeth and his companion Banquo with a prophecy that the former shall be king, and the latter shall generate a line of kings. These prophecies have a great influence on Macbeth, who decides to usurp the throne of Scotland. Banquo. Banquo is another Scottish thane who was with Macbeth when the witches delivered their prophecy. He is told that he will father a line of kings while not becoming king himself. After the king’s murder, Macbeth feels threatened by Banquo and has him murdered by hired assassins. Yet, Banquo returns as a ghost at a banquet, visibly startling Macbeth, who is the only one who can see him.   Macduff. Macduff finds King Duncan’s body after he was murdered and immediately suspects Macbeth. Eventually, he murders Macbeth. King Duncan. The wise and firm king of Scotland at the beginning of the play, he is murdered by Macbeth so he can usurp the throne. He represents moral order in the play, which Macbeth destroys and Macduff restores. Main Themes Ambition. Macbeth’s ambition is devoid of any morality and is the cause of Macbeth’s downfall. After becoming king of Scotland, Macbeth’s ambition turns him into a tyrant, and he has his suspected enemies murdered. Ambition is a trait his wife Lady Macbeth shares, and she, too, succumbs to it.   Loyalty. At he beginning of the play, King Duncan rewards Macbeth with the title â€Å"Thane of Cawdor† because the original Thane of Cawdor was actually a traitor, but Macbeth betrays the king in order to usurp the throne. Macduff, who suspects Macbeth once he sees the king’s corpse, flees to England to join Duncan’s son Malcolm, and together they plan the downfall of Macbeth and restore the moral order.   Fate and free will. The witches do show Macbeth his future and his fate, but Macbeth’s actions are arbitrary and not pre-ordained.   Appearance and reality. â€Å"Fair is foul and foul is fair,† is one of the famous quotes in Macbeth, and appearance and reality intermingle in the play: the witches give out paradoxical prophecies and characters hide their true intentions. For example, Macbeth seems honorable but actually plans to murder King Duncan. Malcolm soon flees Scotland after his father’s murder, which seems suspicious at first, but it’s actually a way for him to protect himself. Literary Style The language used by Macbeth and Lady Macbeth evolves throughout the play.  At first, they’re both characterized by a fluent and energetic style, but, as their ambition gradually overtakes them, their speech becomes fragmented. For instance, while prose in Shakespeares plays is reserved to characters of low social orders, once Lady Macbeth is overcome by madness, she utters her lines in prose too. By contrast, the witches speak in enigmatic riddles interposed with grotesque elements.   About the Author William Shakespeare, who wrote ten tragedies and eighteen comedies, wrote King Lear (1605), Macbeth (1606), and The Tempest during King James’ reign. King James was patron of Shakespeare’s acting company, and Macbeth, by stating that King James descended from the Scottish thane Banquo, is a de facto tribute to Shakespeare’s sovereign.

Free Essays on Treating Aids- The Global Ethical Dilema

Treating AIDS- The Global Ethical Dilemma Statistics show that ninety percent of the world’s 33 million HIV/AIDS cases are in Africa, Latin America, and Asia. These areas are known to be much more deficient and therefore can not afford the drug to help fight AIDS. The quandary for the drug companies is how to make these drugs more inexpensive. These drugs are very much needed. 8 percent of the 38 million people in South Africa are infected with the AIDS virus. Western drug companies face issues of social responsibility in both short and long terms. Their short term responsibility is to deal with the pressure they are receiving from health organizations around the world, global competition, compassion for those unfortunate that can’t be treated, and to maintain a benevolent image. The long term responsibility the industry is faced with is maintaining sufficient revenue to support the goal of developing a cure for AIDS and other diseases. Along with getting the drug to everyone in need, the pharmaceutical industry is fighting to protect the patents on their drugs. Large companies are in business to invest numerous amounts of money to develop drugs. Patents protect the companies from generic copies. Without patents, businesses feel they would not survive. This would be a crisis for world health. This leaves us with the overall problem of who should pay for AIDS drugs around the world? In 1997, the South African government passed a law securing cheaper drugs for its people by allowing local companies to copy patented drugs. It also allowed the AIDS drug to be imported from other countries. By May 2000, five major companies offered to sell the AIDS drug at reduced prices to developing countries, although, various groups pressure the drug companies to reduce their prices even lower for poor countries. Distribution Strategy and Plan Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Distribution Strategy and Plan - Coursework Example Early last year, representatives from the UNIQLO Company, including its chairman Tadashi Yanai, met Indian minister of state for industry and commerce, Nirmala Sitharaman. The Company also met with Indian minister of textile Santosh Kumar Gangwar. The purpose of these meetings was to establish sourcing arrangements with the various companies available in India. Currently in India UNIQLO operates under single-brand retail, where it has invested heavily in retail infrastructure and has set up stores strategically within India. UNIQLO had been eyeing the Indian market for a while prior to their initiative to penetrate its vast market but had postponed its plans in order to carefully consider the uncertainties that plague the Indian market. Using a local company’s distribution channel will allow UNIQLO to deal with consumers that it could not have economically reached using its own sales force. A network already established by other company’s provides you with a ready-made network and coverage of other regions of the country without prior investment of your own resources (Westwood 2011). In addition, working with an already established network of distribution will give UNIQLO access to a readily available array of customers, which will increase the size of its potential customer base without having to incur additional marketing and sales costs. Nokia’s exclusive stores, known as property dealers are franchised outlets. Franchisees ought to fulfill certain criteria, such as, in the emergence of a store that can be converted into a priority dealer, a certain number of footfalls must be available, and the store’s location should be prime in that region, among other standards. The Nokia Company assists these outlets in terms of visual marketing, furniture and so forth against a deposit from the store owner, refundable at the end of

Meat Eating - a Necessary Evil Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Meat Eating - a Necessary Evil - Essay Example The most fundamental issue on dietary ethics is that, for most people residing in the developed world, meat eating is not necessary for their survival or health. Therefore, it is concluded that killing animals just because they like the taste of animals is morally unjustifiable and wrong. However, the question that remains, â€Å"Is it really wrong to eat meat?† People have gone ahead to write about this issue one being Jay Bost who wrote an award winning article by the name â€Å"Give Thanks for Meat† and other writers like Singer, Peter and Mason who wrote the book â€Å"The Ethics of what we eat: why our food choices matter†. In both cases, the writers talk about the ethicality of meat eating and the killing of animals for meat. Both literatures show deep concern on the issue of animal welfare as they are converted to meat. The main variation between the two is Bost sees meat eating as a not so bad activity while Singer and the other writers have a firm stand on the unethically of meat eating. For this essay, I will be going by the thesis statement that meat eating is a necessary evil. This is because meat does have some nutritional value in for our bodies because meat provides use with protein that is much needed to repair worn out cells and replace dead ones in the body. Although I do not agree with animal mistreatment because is unnecessary and cruel, meat eating does not have to be put in the same category as animal mistreatment.

Ubermensch, the Superman, and who he really is Essay

Ubermensch, the Superman, and who he really is - Essay Example he demonstrates in his work Thus Spake Zarathustra, Nietzsche’s idea of superman held that he was a man of ordinary means and stature with an extraordinary commitment to his own definition of the world. As is communicated through the many small individual sermons Zarathustra delivers to those people interested in learning, Nietzsche conceived of the overman as an individual who was capable of removing himself from the group mind by ignoring the common moralities and religious teachings to develop his own morals and values. As a result of his beliefs, he is always redefining himself, but taking joy and serenity in the knowledge that it is up to him how to define what is good and bad in each situation. While Nietzsche’s idea of the overman was an individual who held himself aloof from the activities and thought of normal men, Bernard Shaw felt the role of the superman was to also provide assistance to his fellow man as is shown in his play Man and Superman. He agreed with Nietzsche that the superman was an individual capable of removing themselves from the group-speak of the common world to attain higher thoughts and ideals but felt responsible for bringing the rest of humanity up to his own level. While the hero is strong in his own will, he is capable of recognizing the greater needs of the world around him and applies practical means of accomplishing the necessary goal. Another significant difference found in Shaw is in his inclusion of the woman as an important element in the development of the Superman. By pursuing the life force and stabilizing the home, Shaw indicated that women were essential if a man was to transcend to superman. Ayn Rand seems to conform more closely with the ideas of Nietzsche in her depiction of the superman in her novel Atlas Shrugged. Again portrayed as otherwise ordinary, Rand depicts the superman as an individual who is capable of higher forms of reasoning and logic. The goal of mankind to reach this height through

Benefits of Microbial Fuel Cell

Benefits of Microbial Fuel Cell Jessica Johnson This report focuses on Microbial fuel cell development and how it can help us overcome the energetic issues we face currently, at the same time providing a solution to treat waste water more efficiently that the current ways we are going on about doing so. The report aim is to show the benefits of utilizing Microbial Fuel Cell to get rid of the harsh activities we use now to keep up with the modernization of the world while at the same time destroying it, by using the very germs and bacteria that we are afraid of. The research has presents examples of how the use of microbial will help us in the long run once we are able to use this technology for many more things on an even larger scale The existence of MFC has proven to be beneficial in several ways currently: Subject Matter Aim of the report Findings Introduction We as human beings see germs and bacteria as doing more harm than good, it satisfies us greatly to know that we can utilize these germs and bacteria for a greater good. As the world becomes more modernised it is imperative that we find other sources of energy that is clean, renewable and readily available at an affordable cost. Nature is the original Microbial fuel cell as it has been converting organic substrates into energy (Adenosine triphosphate-ATP) since the beginning of time. Microbial fuel cells, technology that is still in its developing stages which uses the biochemical activities of microorganisms as a resource to obtain hydrogen create electricity. Using MFCs are very beneficial to the environment as it helps in the reduction of pollution and cuts the cost of water treatment tremendously. Apart from being an energy source, MFCs also has the potential to provide sustainable power sources to isolated communities and desalinate water. Figure 1: A simple Microbial Fuel cell To most Microbial fuel cell would seem like something that is new to the world but the idea of utilizing microbes to produce energy was brought to the world in the early 1900s by Professor M. C. Potter. Potter used Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces to produce electrical energy at the University of Durham (Mercer, 2012 and Potter, 1912). During his studies, Potter discovered the ability to harness electricity from microorganisms and believed that this discovery would also benefit humans. Potter came up with the idea of creating a microbial fuel cell but lacked the knowledge of bacterial metabolism. Fast forward to the 1980s, M. J. Allen and H. Peters Bennetto further developed Potters idea along with the interest in providing affordable electricity to isolated areas, advanced technology and a better understanding electron transport chain this enabled Allen and Bennetto to create a basic design for the first Microbial Fuel Cell.   Most bacteria are made up of a lipid membrane that l acks the ability to conduct electricity, Allen and Bennetto discovered that by using electron mediators to transport electrons to the electrodes a greater electrical output created (Davis and Higson, 2007). Korean researcher B-H Kim discovered that some microorganism possessed electrochemical activity and did not require an electron mediator, this created a MFC that did not require mediators that were toxic and expensive. Recently more attention has been geared towards Microbial Fuel Cells due to their environmentally friendly operating conditions and the ability for them to utilise biodegradable substrates as fuel The bacteria in a microbial fuel cell work by oxidising and reducing organic molecules to create energy. Figure 2: shows a Microbial Fuel Cell is split into two halves, an aerobic half containing a cathode that allows oxygen. The anaerobic side contains no oxygen, the anode acts as an electron receptor for the bacterial process. Separating both chambers is a proton exchange membrane or a salt bridge, this prevents oxygen from entering the anaerobic side while simultaneously allowing hydrogen ions to pass through thus generating energy. Biocatalyst on the anaerobic side of the MFC oxidises organic substrates such as acetate therefore producing electrons and protons (Antonopolou et. al 2010). The protons are attracted to the cathode by passing through the PEM while the electrons pass through the external circuit (Rahimnejad et. al 2011). If oxygen enters the anode chamber this will prevent energy from being produced. (Rahimnejad et. al 2011) Types of Microbial Fuel Cells Single Chamber MFC Two Chambered MFC       A single chamber MFC, an anaerobic chamber that is linked to a porous cathode exposed to air and is separated by a PEM. Electrons are transferred to the cathode to complete the circuit. A single chamber MFC does not require recharging with an oxidative media and aeration makes the single chamber MFC more versatile and inexpensive to setup due to the absence of expensive membranes and cathodic chambers this creates flexible application in wastewater treatment and power generation. Figure 3: Single Chamber Microbial Fuel Cell A double chambered MFC This type of MFC contains an anodic and cathodic chamber connected by a PEM that mediates proton transfer from the anode to the cathode all while blocking the diffusion of oxygen into the anode, this system is generally used for waste treatment and energy generation. Figure 4: diagram of a double chamber microbial fuel cell Microbes Substrate Applications Escherichia coli Glucose, Sucrose Methylene blue needed as a mediator Clostridium butyricum Starch, Glucose, Lactate, Molasses Fermentative bacterium Proteus mirabilis Glucose Uses Thionin as mediator Streptococcus lactis Glucose Mediator- Ferric chelate complex Aeromonas hydrophila Acetate Mediator-less MFC Table 1: Microbes used in Microbial Fuel Cells With the help of bacteria, Microbial Fuel Cells can convert chemical energy into electricity Current and future uses for Microbial fuel cells There are current applications in which Microbial Fuel cells are involved proves it to be an ever-evolving technology that uses bacteria to generate electricity from waste and create hydrogen. By tapping into this previously unharnessed source of power, clean, sustainable energy can be produced at low cost. Wastewater treatment Microbial Fuel Cells can be utilised to treat sewage water. MFCs can kill the bacteria found in sewage. It has been proven that MFC can reduce the amount of bacteria present in wastewater by 80% (Liu 2004). The waste water is initially pre-treated to remove the toxins and non- biodegradable materials from the water. This process is deemed challenging as sewage water can be extremely toxic and polluted undergoes extensive treatment before MFC can be used to clean the water. High operational sustainability and low material costs are important characteristics for treating wastewater efficiently (Wang et. Al 2012) Sea Water Desalination Microbial Fuel Cells are capable of producing energy but at the level where we can remove salt from large amount of water. However, there is potential for such process to be accomplished, by using an adapted microbial fuel cell would make desalination of sea water possible without external electrical sources [5]. Researchers tested the process of desalination by using a desalination microbial fuel cell. This is quite different to the previous fuel cells mentioned as there is a third chamber present for the salt water in between the two electrodes. The process occurs with the positive and negative ions being attracted to the perspective electrodes as the proton electron membrane removes the salt from the water leaving it fresh. Scientists recorded that salt removal was up to 90% efficient however, higher removal efficiencies are needed to produce grade A drinking water [5]. Figure 5: Desalination microbial fuel cells Hydrogen Production With the help of a Microbial fuel cell, hydrogen can be produced. This process does require an external source of power to convert the bacteria into carbon dioxide and hydrogen gas (JD Coates). Protons are released by the anodic reaction and pass through the PEM towards the cathode, this then combines with oxygen to form water. Hydrogen created from the electrons and protons produced by the microorganisms metabolizing in a MFC can be dangerous temperature wise (Liu et al). Power source-The whole idea behind the development and advancement of microbial fuel cell technologies was mainly based on providing cheap, accessible power to remote regions of in the world like villages in Africa, where majority of the population lives without the luxury of electricity (Doty, 2008). The use of homemade Microbial Fuel Cell in Africa is very new, tests are being done with manure and dirt which would be beneficial for populations in rural areas where this can be as affordable as possible. The electrical current produced by a simple homemade MFC is enough to recharge a cell phone battery, an important communication and lighting tool to rural African communities. Efforts are being made to create MFCs that can be constructed from simple items that can be easily acquired. Materials such as soil, manure, copper wire, buckets, and graphite cloth are essential in creating a simple MFC. Conclusion Microbial fuel cells have created a promising future for human beings and the planet we live on. The research done so far and with the applications that we have currently will help aid the reduction of our need to use fossil fuels and allow us to gain energy from wastes products, bacteria ridden water, enable us to use previously salted water to drink, farm with, this will greatly benefit 3rd world countries and areas plagued with drought and provide electricity to places that do not have any. Scientists are not able to utilise MFC technology to change the world in a day but are working on ways to help make a change bit by bit. Microbial fuel cells will never could produce enough electricity to make coal-fired power plants a thing of the past but however it does have to availability to help us utilise it less hence making the world a safer place to live References Antonopoulo, G., Bebelis, S., Lyberatos, G., Stamatelatou, K. 2010. The Accident - Original Writing Essay -- Papers

The Accident - Original Writing I can hear the boisterous wind charging through the icy caverns of the station. My polished, black leather shoes pad against the escalator stairs, as I rub at the chafing collar of my shirt, aware of the irritating dampness. Everything seems to be going against me. Morality has a vice-like grip on my stiff shoulders, and it is beginning to yank me back. Gripping the cold handle of my briefcase offers some reassurance, but remembering the contents sends an ominous shiver up my spine. They did not say the first job would be so hard. The grime, embedded in the rugged tiles, adds to the dingy, depressing surroundings. A crumpled crisp packet flits across the surface, as another tube roars past. It is as if I have just entered the minotaur's den, and luckily escaped the clutches of the savage beast. I begin to walk more briskly, as an unpleasant stench wafts from the nearby toilets. Have they never heard of such a thing as disinfectant or cleaners? Inefficiency is a rapidly spreading disease, and it needs a cure soon. Failure to succeed, especially in my line of work, has inconceivable consequences. The relative quiet is broken by the monotonous drone of the loudspeaker dictating various platforms, and a raucous group of youths. I glower at them as they began ridiculing a humble tramp who is coughing vigorously, blatantly distressed. My moral arrow tells me I should go and prevent this, however the objectives involved include avoiding all human contact. The one on the left hand side, a stocky teenager with a crew cut and a hideous earring, begins making offensive gestures with his free hand, the oth... ... enveloped the tube. Muffled groans broke the silence. The sprucely dressed man with polished hair flicked on his lighter, and activated his phone beam. Beside him was a balding man, blood oozing from a deep gash in his chest. The man with the lighter sat up abruptly, a concerned look on his face. He hastily removed his jacket, and applied it to the wound, in an attempt to prevent the blood loss. The balding man grunted, croaking for assistance. A creased picture caught the eye of the suavely dressed man. It was beside the ravaged hand of the balding man. He frowned, recognising the picture's familiarity. On the back, scribbled in red writing, was the word target. Before acting, he reached for the weighty briefcase that was crushing his foot. He began to click it open. The balding man's left eye fluttered open.

Determining Shareholder Value Analysis Through Performance Management

Introduction:Although stockholder value prosodies and value-based direction are widely identified and good known, but they are far from being universally applied. Old ages of restructuring and employee layoffs frequently attributed to stockholder value considerations attached with self-interested direction and small sighted and concentrate on current stock monetary value has promoted defeat and uncertainness. Therefore, it is critical to understand the stockholder value attack and its discrepancies. Additionally, it is indispensable for the stockholder value attack that the aims of the troughs and the company ‘s stockholders have to be aligned and should be focused on presenting superior stockholder value. Known the globalisation of capital markets and their worsening boundaries, economic systems will bit by bit run out of capital if they are non capable to make stockholder wealth and therefore attract investors. If economic systems are incapable to supply superior or at least fulfilling returns they will fall in further and further buttocks in planetary competition and will drop employment chances. Therefore, a value-based system grows in significance, as capital becomes more nomadic ( O'Donnell, 2008 ) . Anyhow, this theoretical base research seeks to supply critical rating of mensurating stockholder wealth through the qualitative and quantitative techniques, such as economic value creative activity ( EVC ) . Falling within the model of EVC are a figure of similar constructs utilizing legion acronyms, such as EVA ( economic value added ) SVA ( stockholder value analysis ) , VBM ( value-based direction ) and qualitative steps i.e. , quality, client satisfaction, larning and invention and internal concern procedures ( equilibrate scorecard ) . These constructs all represent ways to associate the strategic determinations at executive degree with the operational drivers used by the front-line directors and employees ( Schuster, 2000 ) . This research will concentrate merely, on the construct of stockholder value and their determiners. Shareholder value analysis ( SVA ) is one of the legion non-traditional prosodies used in the concern universe. SVA evaluates the fiscal value of a company by measuring the return that goes to their shareholders. SVA besides supports company managers by concentrating on strategic aims as it maximises the wealth of company shareholders in general ( Baker, 2001 ) . Therefore, SVA is value-based step, intended to measure concern schemes, capital undertakings, maximizing the long-run stockholders wealth etc ( Pike and Neal, 2006 ) .3. Background:The basic construct of value is traceable back in clip to the nineteenth century economic theory that leads the manner to the thought of â€Å" Residual Income † ( Magni, 2009 ) . However, the term Value-based Management and acronyms such as VBM or MSV ( pull offing for stockholder value ) have non used until the mid-1990s. VBM is a formal, systematic attack to pull offing companies to achieve the aim of maximizing value creative activity and stockholder value overtime ( McTaggart et al, 1994 ) and stockholder value direction and its analysis has been greatly stressed and introduced in late by doodly-squat Welshman. Value-based direction is a systematic attack to direction, whereby the company ‘s overall aspirations, logical techniques, and direction procedures ( should aline ) to assist the company to maximize its value by concentrating direction determination doing on the cardinal drivers of value ( Copeland et al, 2000 ) . Value-based direction became popular in the mid-1980s when Alfred Rappaport published his descriptive text, â€Å" Making Shareholder Value † . However, stockholder value orientation is common in concerns and it is still on high dB argument either the manageraˆ?s exclusive focal point should be to raise the firmaˆ?s value. Therefore, this factor pushes me to follow and acquire on with this research analysis in deep. In new epoch the New Standard for Business Performance has been developing. Companies such as Boots, Lloyds TSB, and Cadbury Schweppes were shortly doing unfastened public committednesss to mounting value for their stockholders ( Maple-croft, 2005 ) . So we can state that stockholder value is a concern term, which entails the critical step of a company ‘s success and stockholders ‘ value by and large understood through three cardinal elements likely, making value ( procedures ) , mensurating value ( EVA and MVA ) and pull offing for value that is administration, direction, administration, civilization and communicating ( ICMA, 2009 ) . Corporations retained their earning for growing and development usually they invest in employee preparation, and in other concern procedures like physical assets merely to acquire more enhancement ; and this sweetening increases the stockholders value in concern in financial signifier ( Jhunjhunwala, 2009 ) . Harmonizing to Rapport, ( 1986 ) :The SVA used in several ways as,It is refer to the market capitalisation of a company. It is mentioning to the construct of the primary end for a company is to increase the wealth of stockholders ( proprietors ) by paying dividends and/or doing the stock monetary value to increase ( Rapport, 1986 ) . It is refer to the more specific impression that planned actions by direction and the returns to stockholders should surpass certain benchmarks such as the cost of capital construct ( Swensen, 2000 ) . In kernel, the thought â€Å" stockholders ‘ money should be used to gain a higher return † than they could gain themselves by puting in other assets holding the same sum of hazard ( Rapport, 1986 ) . If hazards are at that place so there must be answerability has to be exist so answerability of concern at all degrees increased perceptual experiences of value-added in concern ( Baker, 2001 ) . In recent old ages increasing acknowledgment that business-based intangible assets are great drivers of value. Business base parametric quantities can recognize as a taking force in creative activity and for direction of these market based assets. To make this we must present common model for public presentation measuring and its part in value- added direction for the interest of stockholders ( Reimann, 1987 ) .4. Performance Management:Historically, public presentation step systems was developed as a agency of monitoring and keeping organizational control, which is the procedure o f guaranting that an administration pursues schemes that lead to the accomplishment of overall ends and aims ( Nanni, et al 1990 ) . Performance step plays a critical function in every administration, as it is frequently position as a advanced system of measurings that assist directors to foretell the company ‘s economic public presentation and topographic point the demand for alterations in operations. In add-on, public presentation step can supply directors, supervisors, and operators with information required for doing day-to-day opinions and determinations ( Reimann, 1987 ) . Performance step uses by administrations on a regular basis, as it enables them to guarantee that they are accomplishing uninterrupted betterments in their operations in order to prolong a competitory border, addition market portion and increase net incomes. Traditional steps public presentation step has chiefly been fiscal mensurating ratios such as ROI ( Return on Investment ) , RI ( Residual Income ) , and EPS ( Earnings per portion ) ( Pike and Neal, 2006 ) . These cost associated prosodies histories help house ‘s topographic point countries in which capital invested profitlessly. So regular opinion through strategic survey must in topographic point to accomplish and modulate direction focal point consequently.5. Strategic Management:Strategic managementA can be used to find mission, vision, values, ends, aims, functions and duties, timelines etc, but at strategic degree. So strategic direction can specify as its: â€Å" Strategic direction is the set of managerial determinations and actions that determines the long-term public presentation of an administration ( Robbins and Coulter, 2005: P-86 ) † . Harmonizing to Favaro, ( 2003 ) doing top direction more accountable for mounting the company ‘s intrinsic value is the key to protecting stockholder involvements. The top direction should understand the importance of strategic survey when there is inquiry of how to increase the stockholders wealth through concern procedures, it is leads long-run strategic thought, and it consequences in higher organisational public presentation. The bulk executives today understand that the demand to make stockholder value is critical. However, many discover that attempts to present on this cardinal are frustrated in pattern. Turning concerns and bettering profitableness by traditional factors often fail to gain the assurance of investors. Higher market portion and broader client acknowledgment go unrecognised, or even worse, which are punishing by the capital markets. By and large, the most competitory direction squads are reacting to the force per unit area to make value by implementation ne w public presentation prosodies and new theoretical accounts for pull offing their companies. As strategic director, they get ready to rush up that passage. In most instances, strategic direction aid by transform their administrations with the undermentioned factors: By deriving a superior apprehension of what drives value, By redesigning fiscal direction systems to analyze and describe information from the position of part to value, and By developing a powerful inducements system for directors to construct stockholder wealth Strategic direction squad transport a logical, consistent model for nearing strategic and tactical determinations from a value-based position. When suitably implemented, this model becomes a true beginning of competitory advantage that eventually turns in to maximal stockholders wealth.6. A value based attack:Increased stockholder value should be the concluding end of any history able concern activity. By acquiring better client value and pull offing market-based assets, concern activities contribute to hard currency flow coevals, which leads to improved stockholder value. SVA is the doctrines for merchandise or service of combined attempts from the direction to the employees in big ( Pike and Neal, 2006 ) .7. Sustainable Business Scheme:The authoritative conversation on concern scheme for sustainability has started in the concern and this conversation is greater than earlier ; and this is from consumers, employees, and stockholders on a common intent and a passion for companies that do good by making good. Any scheme without sustainability at its nucleus can be obviously irresponsible, and bad for concern, bad for stockholders, bad for the environment in big. These challenges represent alone chances for large trade names such as Dell, Toyota, Procter & A ; Gamble, and that are implementing built-in, instead than sideline, schemes for sustainability. These companies are making as by confirming practical model for alteration ( Presto, 2005 ) which involves prosecuting employees, utilizing transparence as a concern tool, and harvesting the wagess of a networked organisational construction ( Werbach, 2009 ) . Leave your old impressions of corporate societal duty and environmentalism behind ( more draw back ) . Werbach, ( 2009 ) is get downing a wholly new duologue around sustainability of endeavor. Sustainability is now a great and really competitory strategic advantage, and constructing it into the nucleus of any concern and research worker ( I ) believe, it is t he lone means to guarantee that your company will be survive and companies can construct more of their stockholders value in pecuniary term.8. Economic Value added ( EVA ) :EVA is the innovation of Stern Stewart & A ; Co. , a planetary consulting house, which launched EVA in 1989 ( Virtanen and Salami 2001 ) . EVA is Economic Value Added, a step of economic net income. It is calculate as the difference between the Net Operating Net income after Tax ( NOPAT ) and the chance cost of invested Capital. This chance cost is determines by the leaden mean cost of Debt and Equity Capital ( WACC ) and the sum of Capital employed ( Joseph et al. , 2005 ) . Harmonizing to Stewart, ( 1991 ) given the utility of the step, many companies have adopted it as portion of a comprehensive direction and inducement system that drives their determination procedures. They strive to increase their EVA by: Increasing the NOPAT generated by bing Capital Reducing the WACC Investing in new undertakings where the Return go over the WACC Depriving Capital where the Return is below the WACC Such focal point on value creative activity has provided and served the stockholders good and this is the right manner. 9. Market Value Added: MVA is a computation that demonstrates the difference between the market value of a company and the capital contributed by investors ( both bondholders and stockholders ) .A In other words, it is the amount of full capital claims, which held against the company, plus the market value of debt and equity. It is calculated as MVA= Company ‘s Market Value- Invested Capital ( Lin and Wang, 2003 ; Stock research, 2009 ) . 10. Difference between economic value added and market value added: Economic value addedA ( EVA ) is a public presentation step the true economic net income produced by a company ( Baker, 2001 ) . It is often besides demoted to as â€Å" economic net income † , and provides a measuring of a company ‘s economic success ( or failure ) A over a period. Such a metric is utile for investors who desire to find how good a company has produced value for its investors, and it can be compare against the company ‘s equals for a speedy analysis of how good the company is runing in its industry ( Pike and Neal, 2006 ) . Harmonizing to Tauba, 2003 ) market value addedA ( MVA ) , on the other manus, is merely the difference between the current sum market value of a company and the capital contributed by investors ( including both stockholders and bondholders ) . MVA is non a public presentation metric like EVA because MVA reflecting more likely intangible prosodies compare to EVA so EVA is a wealth metric is straight related to stockholders wealth and mensurating the degree of value, and a company has accumulated them over clip ( Taube, 2003 ) . As a company executes good over clip, it will retain earnings.A This will retrieve the book value ofA the company'sA portions, and investors will probably offer up the monetary values ofA those portions in outlook of future net incomes, doing the company ‘s market value to lift ( Taube, 2003 ) . As this happens, the difference between the company ‘s market value and the capital contributed by investors ( it is MVA ) represents the extra monetary va lue the market assigns to the company because of it past operating successes.11. Advantages of Shareholder value analysis:SVA has the undermentioned advantages: ( Aglietta, 2000 ) : It obtains a long-run fiscal position on which to establish strategic determinations It offers a universal and general attack that is non capable to differences in companies ‘ accounting policies and is hence applicable internationally and across concern sectors It forces the organisation to do topographic point and focal point on the hereafter and its clients, peculiarly the value of future hard currency flows Advantages are great as these been described earlier and these forces company ‘s direction to follow and understand the model for mensurating SVA.12. A model for Determining SVA:Harmonizing to Tahir and Conway, ( 2009, pp-7 ) All finding Framework should hold implicit in rules and that prosodies should be link to concern scheme and those cardinal elements which as followers:Tax return on selling investing:Shareholder value is calculate by spliting the estimated entire net value of a company based on its present and future hard currency flows by the value of its portions of stock. The resulting figure indicates the company ‘s value to shareholders ( Pike and Neal, 2006 ) .Customer satisfaction:Satisfaction is the major driver through which keeping rate of client ( repeat purchase ) achieved, greater the merchandise and service public presentation greater the client delectation, which has ultimate, impact on more gross revenues therefore stockholders wealth can be increase ( Kotler and Armstrong, 2002 ) . Without vacillation, the stakeholder group seen to make the greatest challenge to the laterality of stockholder involvements is clients. It is inexplicit that no company can make great wealth for its stockholders without a stable and turning gross base watercourse, which can merely come from holding really satisfied and loyal clients. However, this consequence is by no agencies mechanical. It is possible to achieve high degrees of client satisfaction and yet be unable to interpret this supposed advantage into adequate returns for stockholders, allow entirely great wealth ( CIM, 2002 ) . In add-ons, client satisfaction will take topographic point when the merchandise or service meets or exceeds outlooks and is obtained at a monetary value no higher than its evident value. Furthermore, to the value perceived by clients, every merchandise and service besides contributes some to stockholder value. The size of this part will depend on the volume sold, the monetary value realized, the cost of doing and presenting the Product and service to clients and the needed investing. These factors interrelate to bring forth a hard currency flow watercourse for the concern. The present value of this hard currency flow watercourse determines the pecuniary advantage to stockholders of bring forthing and selling the merchandise or service ( McTaggart and Kontes, 2007 ) .Market portion in targeted sections:The company scheme must work to increase the figure of clients on regular footing as greater the figure of metameric market greater the public presentation of the company.Brand equity: Harmonizing to Doyle, ( 2001 ) Brand is now, recognised by investors as a important beginning of strength and value for concern selling scheme. Brand equity of a company drama positive function in increasing the wealth of their stockholders ; so in this respect, direction plants and develop business-marketing scheme, which must do alliance with trade name and its development ( Baker, 2001 ) .Enterprise administration:It is the set of duties and patterns exercised by the board and effectual direction with the end of supplying and implying strategic way through guaranting organizational aims have achieved, and besides determining that the hazards are managed suitably by verifying that the administration ‘s resources are used sanely ( Denis and McConnell, 2003 ) . In concern, a common set of recognized concern theoretical accounts and a procedure for developing a set of prosodies related to hard currency flow results and it is of import to cognize it is the cardinal country of SVA programmes. Harmonizing to Tahir and Conway, ( 2009 ) to accomplish stockholders value the sustainable value creative activity attack is of import. Using the sustainable value attack ( as above ) economic, environmental and societal resources are assessed ( strategic survey ) and aggregated based on their comparative value part and can be articulate in a pecuniary unit or can be quantify.13. Research Purpose:The cardinal purpose of this thesis is to analyze the determiners of stockholders value analysis through a holistic attack by reexamining and analyzing how involvements of stockholders, are protected, and constrained throughout the life of a company. So the purpose of my thesis can be explained as it is: â€Å" Determining of Shareholder Value Analysis ( SVA ) Through Performance Management in Commercial Sector †13.1. Research Aims:What are the functions of stockholders value analysis in the strategic corporate scheme in the commercial sector? What are the determiners that play significance function to increase the stockholders wealth in the commercial sector? How do the value added determiners ( touchable and intangible ) have important impact on stockholders wealth in the commercial sector?14. Choice of Research Methodology14.1 Research ClassificationsResearch can sort into three groups as Pure Research, Applied Research, and Action Research ( Easterby-Smith & A ; Lowe 1991 ) . Each of these are distinguished by their features and intended results. These could be view as the followers: Pure research is indent to take to theoretical developments. It is consequences are circulating to an academic audience. Pure research can farther be branched into three categories- Discovery, Invention, and Reflection. Discovery arises when a new thought or account emerges from empirical research, which may revolutionise believing that that specific country. They are rare and unpredictable ( Easterby-Smith & A ; Lowe 1991 ) . Invention occurs where a new technique, method, or thought creates for a peculiar issue, based on the direct experiences of their discoverers. Examples include Scientific Management Total Quality Management ( TQM ) . Contemplation like the one the name suggests, occurs where an bing theory technique or group of thoughts are re-examined. Applied Research is undertaken when solutions to specific jobs are required. It normally involves working with clients who identify the jobs and are involved in the solution. The consequences so reported to the client and disseminated through diaries and other publications ( Sutherland, 2004 ) . Action Research deals with the position that research should take to alter, which should integrate into the research procedure itself. It operates based on engagement ( Salford University, 1999 ) , and stresses the importance of set uping a collaborative relationship between the research workers and researched a â€Å" new paradigm † research attack. It is largely utile when working with persons or little groups ( Easterby – Smith & A ; Lowe 1991 ) and most suited to state of affairss where alteration has planned or at hand ( Salford University, 1999 ) . The research procedure itself is portion of the acquisition procedure.14.2 MethodologyHarmonizing to Burns and Bush, ( 2006 ) methodological analysis refers to the scientific discipline of finding appropriate methods to carry on research. Collis and Hussy, ( 2003, pp-82 ) refer the word research: â€Å" Methodology associates to the overall attack to the research procedure, which is theoretical base of aggregation and analysis of the information, considered † . Similarly, the analysis of the rules of methods, regulations, and posit ( hypnotized or assume ) employed by a subject the systematic survey of methods that are and it can be, or have been applied within a scientific subject a certain process or set of processs is called Methodology. Methodology moreover refers to more than a simple set of methods ; it refers to the principle and the philosophical premises that underline a peculiar survey. Research methodological analysis frequently refers to anything and everything that enclosed for a subject or a series of procedures, activities, and undertakings. Few illustrations can happen in package development, undertaking direction and concern procedure Fieldss, and other Internet selling ( IMA ) research. This usage of the term is unified by the lineation who, what, where, when and why. Harmonizing to Collis and Hussey, ( 2003 ) research methodological analysis determines the research whole procedure from the beginning to the terminal. They besides highlight the research doctrine, which refers to the premises refering the universe and the nature of cognition The term methodological analysis may be used either to â€Å" mention to the chief paradigms of an attack † ( i.e. qualitative or quantitative ) or to specify â€Å" an operational research technique † which can be completed through Questionnaire- Based Structured, Case Study Technique and Semi- Structured Interviews ( Yin, 2002 ) . In the first case of usage, there are two different research attacks to the aggregation and handling of informations – the Quantitative and Qualitative Approaches. 1. The quantitative attack or scientific method ( as it is besides known ) , is founded on the averment that there is a individual world, which is nonsubjective. It is hence possible and necessary to Separate the phenomenon from the environing environment and do a separate appraisal. Maintain distance and objectiveness from the research topic Observe without inter-relating to what is observed 2. The qualitative attack on the other manus has an opposite position. It is base on the premises that there is no remarkable aim world and that the nature of the ascertained world is in some manner related to the research worker ‘s interaction with it. It is a realistic though complex survey since it does non enforce any isolating premises or controls on the phenomenon. This attack yields rich, complex informations and the findings focal point on the qualities of the research topic, instead than their numeral measuring ( Salford University, 1999 ) . This theory is instead better for theory edifice so proving. A instance survey attack to action research will chiefly be usage in this survey. Case surveies can categorise as the followers ( Yin 1994 ) : Exploratory- normally focuses on theory development Explanatory- involves hypothesis testing. Descriptive- describe an uncontrived state of affairs Further Amartunga, ( 1998 ) stated that a instance survey attack to research is ideal when a holistic, in-depth probe is needed, to research those chosen state of affairss, To look into a modern-day phenomenon within its existent life context To convey out the inside informations from the point of view of the participants by utilizing multiple beginnings of informations There are many benefits of utilizing a instance survey attack as listed ( Yin, 2002 ) : Rich penetration, into the issue under consideration Provision of illustrations Flexibility Bridging spread between industry and academe Development of a web of people Permission of multiple beginnings of information and stuffs On the other manus, there are many troubles associated with the instance analyze attack excessively: A inclination to be excessively descriptive Trouble in screening out proper information: volume of informations generated By and large do non seek to analyse issues Decision may be statistically limited Tend to capture the experience of an organisation merely at a peculiar period of clip For Secondary informations there are following resource have to be look to roll up research stuff and information for farther research they could be hold relationship up to some extent but it is great aid to get down primary research as: Customer records ( e.g. regular purchaser ) History Gross saless figures Operational informations – stock degrees Customer satisfaction study consequences Ad spend Customer ailments records Effective informations from promotional runs ( good consequence ) Marketing research studies from past surveies14.3 Data Collection and AnalysisData collected chiefly through study scheme carried out by the research worker, consequences will so analyse. The secondary agencies of roll uping informations for the research through literature reappraisal. This takes the signifier of books, academic and professional diaries, posters on cyberspace web sites and newspaper articles. Last, semi-structured ( Qualitative ) interviews will hold taken in order to flesh out issues and find industry place and sentiments sing assorted issues.

Poem Comparison Essays

Poem Comparison Essays Poem Comparison Essay Poem Comparison Essay The Difference in Similarity Lady Lazarus, by Sylvia Plath and The Waking by Theodore Roethke are two poems that relate directly to the speaker. Although both poems share this similarity, the way in which both works or literature are constructed are vastly different. Plath uses visual imagery and poetical tercets to show the pain and suffering of the speaker in her poem, while Roethke uses the musical Villanelle and synesthesia to create his picture of the speakers inner thoughts and a sense of awakening. When reading the poem Lady Lazarus for the first time, the subject matter can be a little ifficult to comprehend. The title of this poem and the speaker share the same name, ultimately making connections to the poet herself. Lady Lazarus begins by telling the reader that she has done it again. Whatever it is; the reader does not know. She is a thirty-year-old who compares to herself to a Holocaust victim while also telling the reader that she has nine lives, much like a cat. The reader figures out that it is dying but, like a cat, the speaker keeps returning to life. Lady Lazarus tells the reader about the first two times that she almost died and how dying is an art. She describes eath as theatrical as shes possibly preforming her third death in front of a crowd at a circus. She again compares herself to a Holocaust victim as she imagines herself burning to death at concentration camp crematorium. At the end of the poem, she is resurrected for the third time and will eat men like air (line 84). In The Waking, much of the poem takes place inside the speakers mind. The speaker begins to contemplate his own opening awareness to who he is and what he can know. The poem briefly shifts from the speakers mind to the real world to notice some of the natural organisms that surround this going where I have to go. The speaker returns to his inner reckoning of greater power and fate. Imagery is an excellent way for a reader to read a poem through the five senses. It gives a more realistic feel to the work that is presented and can give better insight about the tonality of the work. Lady Lazarus uses imagery to describe her pain that is comparable to the pain that the Jews experienced during the Holocaust. Visual imagery is used in lines 4-5 when she says A sort of a walking miracle, my skin/Bright as a Nazi lampshade this use of simile refers to how some Nazis used the skin of the deceased Jews as ampshades. Another use of visual imagery is seen on lines 8-9, as Lady Lazarus says My face a featureless, fine/Jew linen. This metaphor relates Lady Lazarus to how the Nazis would raid the homes of the Jews and take all of their possessions, sometimes including linen. The comparisons of the speaker to things that Nazis had possession of during the Holocaust makes us think that the speaker may feel that she is possessed by the Nazis. The Waking uses a form of imagery called synesthesia. This is a mixing of sensory experiences to paint a picture of the hybrid world of sleeping and waking. One example of synesthesia is in line 2, where the speaker says: l feel my fate in what I cannot fear. What does fate actually feel like? Since it is not something that is classified as the common sense of feeling or touch, it may be used to describe a presence through an absence. I believe this to explain how someone can teel something without actually knowing what it may be, such as that feeling when you know someone is staring at you. Another use of synesthesia arrives when the speaker says: l hear my being dance from ear to ear (line 5). This line describes the sharp sensitivity of his hearing. His hearing is so acute that he can hear himself dance around his own body. It seems as though his senses are highly sensitive and are firing in several directions in his own mind. People hear themselves think, like myself, I think this is another excellent use of synesthesia because you arent hearing your thoughts literally but you still can hear them. Lady Lazarus is a poem that is made up of twenty-eight tercets. A tercet is a three-line stanza. These stanzas are mostly made up of short, choppy lines with a mix of enjambment and end stop lines that can been seen as an example in lines 22-24 when the speaker ays: [This] is Number Three. (end stop)/ What a Trash (enjambment)/To annihilate each decade. (end stop). When read aloud, the words move quickly and forcefully. It almost sounds like the speaker is spitting her words out to the reader in disgust. This could relate to her overall feelings of disgust throughout the poem. This poem also has use of perfect rhyme and slant rhyme. One instance of perfect rhyme happens in lines 83-84, where the words hair and air rhyme. An example of slant rhyme occurs in lines 71-72, where the words burn and concern sound rhythmical. Also, there is use n anaphora in l do it so it feels like hell (line 46) and I do it so it feels real (line 47). While these various kinds of repetitions of sounds occur all over the place in Lady Lazarus, they do not occur in a particular pattern. The rhymes have an off- kilter feel to them, and this allows the poem to be fast and free wheeling. The reader never knows when a rhyme or some other kind of repetition is going to happen next. I think it works to the feeling of the speaker very effectively because the speaker is in an erratic state of mind. The Waking is characterized as a Villanelle, which means n Italian word referring to a rustic song or dance. Villanelles have five tercets (three- line stanzas) and one quatrain (a four-line stanza), for a total of nineteen lines in all. The rhyme scheme of the tercets is ABA, where the letter refers to the end rhyme of each line, while the quatrain is ABAA. The A rhyme does change throughout the poem. Line 7, for example, ends with a shift in rhyme: you, which does have an O in the word, though it has a long U sound to it. The reader receives more of this type of rhyme in lines and 10 and 12 with how and slow. While the rhyme is generally redictable, it does shift as the poem develops. That seems fitting in a poem where the speaker is describing an awakening. The change in rhyme scheme refers to the shift in the speaker from sleeping to awakening. By line 7, the speaker has shifted from what is going on in his mind to God bless the Ground! I shall walk softly there, (line 8). The speaker is talking about the nature that surrounds him rather than what is going on in his mind. A form like th is has a musical tone to it rather than the choppy freewheeling Lady Lazarus poem. What is interesting about this is that it akes the poem somewhat repetitive, much like the average every day song and how we see the line going where I have to go repetitively. This Villanelle is, in a way, going where it needs to go in relation to how this type of poem is constructed. The Waking, in terms of meter, has each line written in strongly pronounced iambic pentameter. An iamb is a two-syllable pair in which the second syllable is emphasized. This makes the poem a little easier to read and it gives the impression that the speaker is singing the words to the reader as opposed to the spitting image hat Lady Lazarus brings. Sylvia Plath and Theodore Roethke use their own poetic styles to set the tone of the speakers in their poems. Plath uses visual imagery and short, choppy tercets to describe a woman who is so unhappy that she relates her despair to a Jewish person during the Holocaust. On the other hand, Roethke uses synesthesia and the musical form of a Villanelle to characterize the speakers awakening through his mind and the real world. Bibliography Baym, Nina, and Robert S. 8 Common Questions Parents Ask Teachers

8 Common Questions Parents Ask Teachers If you really want to make a great impression on the parents, then you must be ready to answer any question they might have for you. Here are 8 of the most common questions teachers receive from parents as well as some advice on how to answer them. 1. How Do I Help My Child With Technology When I Dont Know Anything About It? Many parents are far behind when it comes to staying up-to-date with the latest tech tools. Often, the child is the most tech-savvy member of the household. So, when a parent doesnt know how to help their child with their tech, they might come to you for advice.   What to Say - Tell parents to ask the same questions they would if they werent using technology for their homework. Questions like What are you learning? and What are you trying to accomplish? 2. How Can My Child Be Successful in School? Parents want to know what can they do at home to help their child be successful in school. They might ask for details on how you grade and if there is anything that they can do to make sure their child receives an A.   What to Say - Be truthful, show them how you grade, and share your expectations for your students. Remind them its not all about the grades, but how the child is learning. 3. Is My Child Behaving in School? If a parent asks you this question, you can probably assume that the child has behavioral issues at home as well. These parents often want to know if their childs behavior at home is transferring to their behavior in school. And, though there are instances of children acting out at home and presenting the opposite behavior in school, misbehaved children often act out in both spaces.   What to Say - Tell them how you see it. If they are indeed acting out, then you need to come up with a behavior plan with the parent and the student. There may be something going on at home (divorce, sick relative, etc.) Do not pry, but you can prompt the parent to see if they will tell you. If they are not acting out in school, reassure the parent and tell them they neednt worry.   4. Why Do You Give so Much/so Little Homework Parents will have strong opinions on homework volume no matter how much you give. Be receptive to their feedback, but remember that you are the teacher and it is ultimately up to you to decide what is best for your students and your classroom. What to Say - If a parent asks why you give so much homework, explain to them what their child is working on in school, and why its important to have them reinforce it at night. If a parent asks why their child never gets homework, then explain to them that you dont feel its necessary to bring work home when they could be spending time with their family. 5. What Is the Purpose of the Assignment? This parent question usually arises after a long night of sitting with their frustrated child. You have to remember that the way they pose the question (which is usually out of frustration) may come off as aggressive. Be patient with this parent; they have probably had a long night.   What to Say - Tell them that you are sorry that they may have a hard time and that you are always available via text or email to answer any questions. Make sure to communicate to them the  specific purpose of the assignment and reassure them that next time they have an issue that you are always there to answer their questions. 6. We Are Going on Vacation, Can I Have All of My Childs Homework? Vacations during school time can be hard because a child misses out on a lot of classroom time. It also means that you have to take the extra time to prep all of your lesson plans far ahead of time. Make sure to communicate your policy for vacation homework in the very beginning of the school year and ask that they give you at least one weeks notice. What to Say - Provide the parent with what you can and let them know that their child will likely have other things to make up when they get back. 7. Does My Child Have Friends? The parent just wants to make sure that their child is having a good experience in school and isnt being bullied or excluded.   What to Say - Tell them that you will observe their child and get back to them. Then, make sure that you do that. This will give the chance for you to pinpoint the time of day the child is having difficulty (if any). Then, the parent (and you) can talk to the child and come up with some solutions if need be. 8. Is My Child Turing in Their Homework on Time? Usually, this question comes from parents of 4th and 5th graders because this is the time when students gain more personal responsibility, which can take some adjustment.   What to Say - Offer the parent some insight into what their child is handing in and what they are not. Communicate your rules and expectations are for the student. Talk with the parent about things that they can do at home to help the child maintain responsibility, as well as what they can do in school.

Ethics and Global Climate Change Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Ethics and Global Climate Change - Essay Example The countries of the present world which are more developed than other countries with respect to economic factors are greater contributors to the emission of harmful particles into the climate. In the same manner, the economically developed countries also holds higher power of addressing the issue of reducing global warming when it comes to inculcating cost towards utilization of various innovative equipments that can significantly reduce global warming. Stephen Gardiner, in his article addressing issues of climate change, argued that the nations which are economically developed or the rich nations should take charge of bearing the most amount of costs required for the purpose of addressing consequences of global warming or eradication of the entire issue of global warming. Stephen Gardiner argued this way principally on the grounds of strong perspectives of economics and liability. In terms of economical aspect, Stephen Gardiner presented reasoning behind his argument on the basis o f an Integrated Assessment (IA) model.
